This is test run on the industrial sewing machine. First Semester and Second Semester Sewing
The school got some new sergers in and this what the edges of the fabric looks like when you use one. I love the serger, I use it all the time for my sewing. Second Semester Sewing 101A straight seam. Second Semester Sewing 101
A curved seam. I just noticed that I took the picture with the seam laying down. Second Semester Sewing 101
Another curved seam. This would be used for pockets. Second Semester Sewing 101
As you can see this is a under stitch. This stitch is use for when there is a facing that needs to lie flat. Used alot around the necklines in garments. Second Semester Sewing 101
This is a serged seam. To keep the edges nice and from fraying you can serge them. Then sew the fabric together to have a nice seam. This is what we would call a French seam. You would use this Technic on fabric that would fray easily. This is not hard but it not easy. It takes time because if you do it wrong it won't look right.
Hong Kong or Bound Seam. Like with the serged seam we want it to look nice but with this one we take bias tape and sew it on the edges. First Semester Sewing 102
Double Top Stitch. You would see this on jeans. Second Semester Sewing 101This one is also a Double Top Stitch. First Semester Sewing 102
Edge Stitch Like a top stitch but as close to the seam as possible. First Semester Sewing 102
Now this is a Top Stitch or Welt Seam. One single stitch on top of the seam, usually used with a different color. First Semester Sewing 102
Hairline Seam. Used in place of the serged seam. You would use a very small zig zag stitch as close to the seam line as possible to help keep the fabric form fraying. First Semester Sewing 102
Slot Seam. First Semester Sewing 102
A Gather. First Semester Sewing 102Boning. This boning is sewn directly on the seams. First Semester Sewing 102
Boning in a casing. This boning you sew the casing on to the seam and then you slide the boning in.Makes it easier to was the garment. First Semester Sewing 102
Double Layer Pocket. Which I have laying down. Used on suit jackets. First Semester Sewing 102Welt Pocket. Fake Pocket. First Semester Sewing 102
Patch Pocket. Your most common Pocket. First Semester Sewing 102
